The term “whales” is technically used for all cetaceans, including baleen whales (such as humpback whales, gray whales, and blue whales) and toothed whales (such as dolphins, orcas, and sperm whales). In this article, we focus exclusively on baleen whales, as they are the guardians of Earth’s morphogenetic system. We will look at their roles and the importance of collaborating with them. (Whenever I refer to “whales” in this article, I mean baleen whales.)
