Sabre: A bird named Billy had arrived at the Bird Rescue, so I thought I’d get my caregiver (“Mom,” as I call her) to take me there to check him out and see how he was doing. I felt a very strong pull toward him, as if I already knew him. I also felt like he needed me.
I often go to the Bird Rescue to visit my friends, whom I lovingly call my flock. While we were there, Mom and I sat down beside a very handsome conure. It was Billy. Right away, I noticed that he was angry, aloof, and not very friendly, even toward me, and I get along with almost everyone. I have that type of personality; I’m a Pisces. [Smiles.]
He said he wanted a name change and thought Bailey would be a much better fit. He also said he had been at the rescue for about four weeks after his lady caregiver, in his words, “dropped him off.” He had lived with this lady and “a man,” as Bailey described him, for about six years. The lady and man told Donna at the rescue that they couldn’t deal with his aggressive behavior (biting, for example) and that he’d been plucking his feathers since they got him. (They didn’t elaborate where they got him from.)
