Traditional Insights into Yoga Mally Paquette

This pose is a bit challenging and requires balance and abdominal strength. It represents the difficulties of staying centered while riding the “waves” of life. Navigating the tumultuous ups and downs of our lives asks us to calm our minds through breath (pranayama) and single-minded focus (the dristhi).

The physical body takes the form of a downward-pointing triangle, which is a divine shakti yantra. The pose calls in the energies of Shakti and especially the goddess Saraswati, who was usually depicted near a river. Saraswati rides a white swan and floats above the murky waters in a serene and peaceful manner. The white swan or white lotus represents her ability to manage the mind and move toward light and purity. Saraswati is associated with divine knowledge, education, the arts, music, and intelligence.
