Traditional Insights into Yoga: Utthita Parsvakonasana

Traditional Insights into Yoga: Utthita Parsvakonasana Mally Paquette

Sacred geometry is clearly visible in this yoga posture. The side flank of the body forms a diagonal line that extends from Earth to sky.

As you come into this pose, start from a Warrior II position with the back foot anchoring your weight for steadiness. (This also prevents too much weight on the forward bent knee.) Heels are in alignment.

Exhale as you stretch into Warrior II. Lift out of the lumbar spine, creating space and opening your heart. The front knee is at 90 degrees, forming a square yantra to bring in the energy of Lord Ganesha. He brings good luck and represents change, which appears constantly in life. Ganesha also opens the gateway to higher thoughts and helps you understand your destiny.
